The Dubrovnik Digital Nomads-in-Residence Program

The Digital Nomads-in-Residence have been announced. Meet the 10 digital nomads coming to Dubrovnik 23rd April to 23rd May, 2021.

10 winners.
4 weeks.
A once in a lifetime experience.

Includes accommodation, tours and workshops.

The Dubrovnik digital nomad-in-residence (DN-I-R) program is a collaboration between the city of Dubrovnik and the global digital nomad community it hosts.

Using a co-creation model, the Saltwater program team will bring together residents and the 10 digital nomads selected as DN-I-Rs. Over a four week period, the digital nomads will attend design thinking workshops to create a strategic direction for the city, especially as it adjusts to a more sustainable direction and manages the impact of COVID19.

Winners will stay free in Dubrovnik for 4 weeks to collaborate, upskill and contribute as Dubrovnik’s first special guest Digital Nomads-in-Residence.

The activities in the program are intended to contribute to enhancing the city’s standing among digital nomads globally. DN-I-Rs are expected to engage fully, respect their position and bring their collective expertise to benefit incoming digital nomads and the City.

DN-I-Rs will receive professional development training, participate in workshops and present their findings on shaping Dubrovnik as a Digital Nomad Friendly city. This will be presented at a finale event at the end of the program.

FAQ

What is included in the Prize?

Ten winners will have 1 month free accommodation at a prescribed location, and be named a Dubrovnik Digital Nomad-in-Residence (DN-I-R) for the duration of the program. DN-I-Rs are special guests of the City and Tourist Board of Dubrovnik. The prize includes 4 weeks accommodation, meals outlined in program, activities and use of coworking spaces where available. DN-I-Rs will participate in a co-creation model, and must be available to participate in 4 weekly workshops each Friday in the program. These workshops will work with locals and winners to shape the direction of Dubrovnik to become a digital nomad friendly city with a ‘365’ offer. Additional activities will be organised including excursions, group dinners and a finale event, where the framework developed in the workshops will be presented to the public.

Can I nominate an employee from my company?

Yes! We encourage companies to apply and nominate one of their star performers. If you submit an application on behalf of an applicant, we will require them to also agree to the terms and conditions if selected.

I am travelling with my partner. If I win, can we share a room?

Yes.

What is a digital nomad? Am I one?

For the purposes of this competition, a digital nomad is anyone who can work remotely using communications technologies (eg working on your laptop or mobile device). Digital nomads have a career or line of work which allows for location independence. We are accepting entries from seasoned digital nomads, as well as anyone who is completely new to the lifestyle.

If selected, this could be your first ever time as a digital nomad – and that’s fine!

Still not clear? Here’s an example:
You may currently be working from home, or part-home / part-office, and your ability to work remotely in this way now allows you to travel while keeping your job, business and/or clients- and in this case, travel to Dubrovnik.

NB: Please refer to the Croatian Ministry of Interior website to best determine your entry requirements, as they will vary depending on if you are already in Croatia, in the EU or a third-country national.

What is a digital nomad-in-residence?

The Dubrovnik Digital Nomad-in-Residence, as far as we know, is a world first residency program for digital nomads.

If you are familiar with the concept of an artist-in-residence or scholar-in-residence, the same thinking applies. It is a residency program, inviting someone from outside an institution or group to bring in their talents and bring mutual benefits to all involved.

Being a DN-I-R is a CV-builder, a fulfilling experience – where you will contribute, upskill and collaborate with other DN-I-Rs.

What if I don't have any clients or work during the program dates?

We know digital nomads have different schedules and a variety of working styles.

We are looking for people who can fully experience what it is like to be a digital nomad in Dubrovnik, so we expect you to conduct your days as a digital nomad would – whatever that looks like for you.

You can freely use the opportunity to be productive in a new way- eg. writing, do an online course, build a website for a hobby or business planning for a new project.

What costs are not covered? What is provided with the prize?

All winners must hold valid travel insurance and pay for their own travel to and from Dubrovnik and any expenses not included in the competition.
Accommodation, coworking and workshops, and tour activities outlined in the program are provided free.

What about safety and COVID19 restrictions?

Any impact by changes, delays, etc. due to COVID19 or other events are not our responsibility. All travel and safety regulations from points of entry, transit and in Croatia will apply. Being informed and adhering to these requirements is the sole responsibility of the winner. The organisers will assist with information where possible. All efforts will be made to ensure the safety of winners and participants, and the program will adhere to local laws and measures as determined by the Croatian government. See koronavirus.hr for updated information.
